Smoking Position Statement

Effective May 1, 2007, the Smoke-Free Arizona Act makes all public buildings and places of employment smoke-free and tobacco-free. The voting public championed this new law to protect Arizona citizens from secondhand smoke’s harmful effects in buildings and places of employment.

Because Scottsdale Healthcare has been smoke-free since April 2003, the hospitals and medical offices already comply with and exceed most government regulations and standards. By being 100% tobacco-free, we not only comply with the law, we encourage a healthy environment.

Staff members, volunteers, patients and visitors should dispose of their smoking materials at “butt stop” locations before entering the hospitals. These are located at the south entrance of the Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn patient/visitor parking garage (northeast corner of Drinkwater Boulevard and Fourth Street) and directly south of the Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Emergency Department ambulance entrance.

Please respect this policy and the rights of non-smokers by keeping all smoking products extinguished until you depart from Scottsdale Healthcare.

Thank you.
