Thomas J. Sadvary
President and Chief Executive Officer

Tom Sadvary joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 1986 as administrator of the Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital, and has served in progressive executive roles prior to his appointment as Chief Executive Officer in June 2005. Tom began his career at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Barberton Citizens Hospital. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Allegheny College and his Master’s in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. He also worked as a paramedic prior to attending graduate school. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. His community leadership roles include Arizona Hospital & Healthcare Association, Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce, Scottsdale Rotary Club, and Greater Phoenix Leadership Council.


Gary Baker
Senior Vice President and Administrator, Osborn Campus

Gary Baker has held various positions since joining Scottsdale Healthcare in 1989. Prior to joining Scottsdale Healthcare, he worked at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, serves as a Board member on the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA), and is Chairman of the service corporation for the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association. He serves as a board member for the Scottsdale Captive Insurance Company. He earned both his bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and Master’s degree from the University of Illinois.




James F. Burke, MD
Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Burke has held a variety of medical positions at Scottsdale Healthcare Corporation since 1991. Prior to that, he was in the private practice of family medicine. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1979, completed his residency in the Scottsdale Healthcare Family Medicine Residency Program, and is board certified in Family Practice. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American College of Physician Executives.




John N. Ferree, Jr.
President, Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation

John Ferree has served as president of Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation since 1990. A native of North Carolina, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University and a J.D. degree from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University. John’s background includes private law practice, banking, and over 20 years in charitable estate and financial planning with non-profits. He has served as president of the local chapters of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Planning Giving Roundtable of Arizona (twice). John has also served on two national boards, the National Committee on Planned Giving and Charitable Accord. He has taught and spoken to groups locally and across the nation. John was selected as the Fundraiser of the Year by AFP in 1996.

Alan B. Kelly,Esq.
Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Alan Kelly joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 2004 as General Counsel, Vice President in 2005 and became a Senior Vice President and General Counsel in 2007. His responsibilities encompass Legal, Risk Management, Corporate Compliance, Governmental Relations, Community Stewardship and Scottsdale Captive Insurance Company. He previously served for 14 years as Corporate Counsel for Virtua Health Systems in New Jersey and came to Scottsdale from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where he was University Counsel for nine years. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Economics from the University of South Carolina, Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration and a Juris Doctor degree from St. Louis University and finally a Master’s of Law in Trial Advocacy from Temple University. Alan specializes in all areas of healthcare law including transactions, real estate, acquisitions and bond financing. Some of his professional affiliations include the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Bar Associate and National Health Lawyers Association. Mr. Kelly is a member of the New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and District of Columbia Bars and to all Federal Courts within those jurisdictions.

Todd LaPorte
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Todd LaPorte has been with Scottsdale Healthcare since 2001, when he joined the organization as the Director of Finance, then was promoted in 2005 to Associate Vice President of Finance, and to Vice President, Finance in 2006. Prior to Scottsdale Healthcare, Todd served for nine years as the Chief Financial Officer of Dental-Net in Tucson. Todd began his career in healthcare finance with Ernst & Young, where he worked for eight years, rising to the level of Senior Manager before joining Dental-Net. Todd holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Arizona and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University.


Peggy J. Reiley
Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer

Before joining Scottsdale Healthcare Hospitals in 1998, Peggy Reiley was Associate Vice President for Nursing at Beth Israel Hospital, a 625-bed teaching facility in Boston, Massachusetts. Peggy received her Ph.D. from Brandeis University in 1999. She received a Master’s degree in 1987 from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston and a Master’s degree in 1979 from Boston College. Her undergraduate training in nursing was from Northeastern University in Boston. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International.




James R. Cramer
Vice President & Chief Information Officer

Jim Cramer joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 1991. Before joining Scottsdale Healthcare, he was a partner of Ernst & Young in Phoenix, where he was first employed in 1987. Jim is a graduate of the School of Industrial Engineering, Purdue University (B.S.) and he received a Master’s degree in Industrial Administration, Krannert Graduate School of Management of Purdue University in 1977.






Carol Henderson
Vice President, Human Resources

Carol Henderson has served as Vice President of Human Resources since 1993. Before joining Scottsdale Healthcare, she was Vice President, Human Resources, for Inter-Community Medical Center in Covina, California, where she was first employed in 1991. Carol is a graduate of the University of Phoenix (B.S.) in Business Administration. She received her M.S. with an emphasis in Leadership from Grand Canyon University in 2004. She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources with the Society for Human Resource Management. She is on the Board of Directors of Jobs for Arizona Graduates.



Jean Knoedler
Vice President and Administrator, Thompson Peak Hospital

Jean Knoedler joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 2005 as Vice President and Administrator of the Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak hospital. Prior to relocating to Scottsdale, she was chief operating officer and chief nursing officer for the Heart Center of Indiana in Indianapolis. She also spent many years in management positions at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern Illinois University and a Master of Science in Health Services Administration from the College of St. Francis.




Wendy H. Lyons
Vice President, Community Stewardship

Wendy Lyons joined Scottsdale Healthcare Corporation in 1976 and has held various positions prior to her promotion to Vice President. Wendy is a graduate of Lewis and Clark College (B.S.) and the University of the State of New York (B.S.N.) in 1988. She received her Master’s of Science with an emphasis in Leadership from Grand Canyon University in 2004. She is a Registered Nurse and a member of Scottsdale Leadership, Alliance for Healthcare Strategy and Marketing, LINKS Leadership Council, the National Association for Healthcare Quality and Arizona Healthcare Quality Alliance.



Vikki Noyes
Vice President, Operations, Osborn Campus

Vikki Noyes joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 2008. Prior to joining Scottsdale Healthcare, she held numerous positions at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Arizona, including Associate Administrator reporting to the CEO. She received a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from the University of Phoenix and has a B.S. in Medical Radiography from Northern Arizona University.






Kim Post
Vice President, Operations, Shea Campus

Kim Post joined Scottsdale Healthcare in 1991 and has held numerous positions throughout the organization prior to her promotion to Vice President in 2007. Most recently, she served as an administrative leader in the pursuit of the prestigious Magnet award for excellence in nursing care. Kim holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Healthcare Management from the University of Phoenix in 2000. She is certified in Advanced Nursing Administration from the American Nursing Credentialing Center. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, American Nurses Association, Arizona Organization for Nurse Executives, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses. In the past, she has served on several local and national committees to improve the care of women and children in our community.

Mark Slater, Ph.D.
Vice President, Research

Mark Slater, Ph.D. joined Scottsdale Healthcare in February 2007 as Vice President for Research. Dr. Slater completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Houston in 1985, and completed a Behavioral Medicine Internship at the Brown University Program in Medicine and a Pain Research Fellowship at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine. Since 1987, Dr. Slater has served on the faculty of the UCSD School of Medicine. Dr. Slater worked in several health systems, including Sharp Healthcare in San Diego, where he served as Vice President, Research & Physician Services.



Brian Steines
Vice President, Finance

Brian Steines joined Scottsdale Healthcare in September 2007. He has held positions in the Arizona market as Regional CFO for Iasis Healthcare, CEO of Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital, and most recently as the CFO of Maryvale Hospital in Phoenix. Brian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Public Administration, Accounting from the University of Arizona and a Master’s degree in Business Administration/Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix. He serves as a youth leader through his church and has served on several boards for the Tempe YMCA, Habitat for Humanity and as a United Way chairman.
