Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak ranks among elite hospitals

Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak Hospital celebrates its second birthday ranked among the nation’s elite for patient satisfaction.

Health industry quality consultant Press Ganey’s data shows Thompson Peak is consistently in the top 5% of U.S. hospitals based on surveys reporting patients’ opinions of their care.

That reputation for excellent care attracts patients from throughout the northeast Valley and beyond, beginning with the day Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak Hospital opened in 2007.

Recalling opening day, administrator Jean Knoedler, RN, said patients were literally waiting at the door. “When the hospital doors officially opened on Nov. 5, the first patient had already arrived for an MRI exam and the first emergency patient arrived shortly afterward,” she said.

Knoedler attributes Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak’s success to its compassionate staff, physicians and volunteers.

“Our goal is to provide excellent medical and surgical care and give every patient and family a quality, memorable experience. The people we serve tell us we’re meeting and exceeding that goal,” said Knoedler.

Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak is the Valley's first hospital built north of Loop 101 and serves residents of north Scottsdale, Carefree, Desert Ridge, Cave Creek and northeast Phoenix. The 64-bed facility is located at Scottsdale Road and Thompson Peak Parkway in Grayhawk.

Craig Norquist, MD, is a board-certified emergency physician who sees patients ranging from infants to those in their 90s in the Emergency Department at Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak.

“Patients tell us it’s great to have a close-by hospital where they can get expert care and often without a wait,” he said.

A family and visitor-friendly atmosphere is part of the healing environment. More than 100 pieces by Arizona artists adorn the hospital’s walls. “We want to promote a healing, restful environment, and evidence has shown that beautiful art can contribute to healing,” Knoedler said.

Flat-screen TVs with in-room movies and Internet, room service meal ordering systems and a Wi-Fi network add to the amenities, as do concierge services for patients and family.

The hospital offers emergency care, traditional and minimally invasive general surgery, orthopedics, urology, gynecology and breast surgery, cardiology and gastroenterology. Community health education seminars often draw standing room-only crowds.

Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak Hospital is located at 7400 E. Thompson Peak Parkway, Scottsdale AZ 85255; 480-324-7000.
